Module 2 of 4
LINKEDIN + AI

Your LinkedIn is your digital handshake β€” and AI is your writing partner. Here's the workflow: you write a rough draft below, print it, then take that print to ChatGPT (or any AI tool) to polish the wording. Finally you copy the polished version into your real LinkedIn profile. AI doesn't write it for you β€” it helps you sound like the most professional version of yourself.

πŸ€– AI is your writing partner β€” not your replacement

AI tools like ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini are great at one specific thing: taking your raw thoughts and making them sound polished, professional, and confident β€” without losing your voice.

  • Organize messy info into a clear flow that's easy to read
  • Swap casual phrases for professional language (so "I'm chill with people" becomes "I build rapport easily")
  • Cut filler words and tighten sentences β€” short and direct wins on LinkedIn
  • Add the right keywords for your field so recruiters can find you

It's not cheating. It's writing assistance β€” same as a friend or teacher looking over your draft.

πŸ‘€ Why your LinkedIn profile actually matters

Hiring managers spend about 7 seconds on each profile before deciding to scroll past or click in. The first things they see:

  • Your photo β€” drives ~60% of the click/skip decision
  • Your headline β€” the line right under your name
  • Your industry & location

If those three things look professional and specific, they click in. If they look sloppy or generic, they keep scrolling. A polished profile isn't optional β€” it's the front door.

🧱 Anatomy of a strong LinkedIn profile

Five essentials, in order of importance:

  • Photo β€” clean headshot, good lighting, professional clothes, neutral background
  • Headline β€” specific + enthusiastic + professional. NOT "looking for work!!!"
  • Summary β€” 2–3 sentences: who you are, what you're working toward, what you bring
  • Experience β€” every job, internship, volunteer role. Yes, all of them count.
  • Skills β€” top 5 you actually have (LinkedIn lets people endorse them)

We're going to draft all of this below.

1
Step 1
Write your rough draft below
Don't just say "student." Try: role/aspiration Β· what you're learning Β· something you care about.
Example: Aspiring Healthcare Professional Β· CLC The Hive Bootcamp Grad Β· Community Advocate
Who you are, what you're working toward, and what you bring. Keep it specific.
What do people thank you for? What do you do well without being asked?
Any job, volunteering, class project, or community work. Include the impact.
Lock this in for every email you send to an employer.
Example: Name Β· Aspiring Healthcare Professional Β· email@gmail.com Β· linkedin.com/in/yourname

Step 2
Take your print to ChatGPT and polish it

Go to chatgpt.com (or any AI tool β€” Claude, Gemini, Copilot). With your printed draft in hand, paste in one of these prompts and replace the bracketed parts with your own text. Then iterate β€” ask follow-ups until it sounds like YOU but sharper.

Prompt 1 β€” Make your headline pop

"Here is my LinkedIn headline: [paste your headline]. I'm aspiring to work in [your industry]. Make it sound more professional, specific, and confident β€” but keep it short and human, not buzzword-stuffed. Give me 3 options."

Prompt 2 β€” Tighten your summary

"Here's my LinkedIn summary draft: [paste your summary]. Rewrite it in 2–3 sentences that sound professional and genuine. Don't use clichΓ©s like 'team player' or 'passionate.' Use this experience: [paste your experience]. Use my actual voice β€” don't make it stiff."

Prompt 3 β€” Sharpen your experience descriptions

"Take this raw work-experience description and make it sound impactful for a LinkedIn profile: [paste your experience]. Use strong action verbs. Add numbers if you can. Keep each bullet under 2 lines. Don't exaggerate β€” keep it true to what I actually did."

Pro tip: After AI gives you a version, read it OUT LOUD. If it doesn't sound like something you'd actually say, ask: "Rewrite this to sound less corporate and more like a real person."

3
Step 3
Put it on LinkedIn (live with the facilitator)

The last mile: pull up linkedin.com, sign in (or create your account), and paste your polished sections into the real fields. Your facilitator will walk through this together so nobody gets stuck.

  • Upload a clean headshot (we'll schedule one if you don't have one yet)
  • Paste your polished headline directly under your name
  • Paste your polished summary into the "About" section
  • Add every job, volunteer role, and class β€” yes, even the ones you think don't matter
  • Connect with at least 3 people in the room before you leave

Bottom line: AI got you 80% of the way. The last 20% is making it yours.

Module 3 of 4
SAY IT LIKE YOU MEAN IT

Being seen and heard starts before you say a single word. Body language, eye contact, and how well you listen tell people who you are. Let's level up your communication game β€” then test what you learned.

πŸ‘€ Body Language β€” What It Says

Your body talks before your mouth does. These are the signals employers and coworkers read in the first 7 seconds.

  • Eye Contact: Steady (not staring) = confidence and interest
  • Posture: Shoulders back, arms relaxed = engaged and ready
  • Smile: Genuine = friendliness and approachability
  • Hand Gestures: Open and purposeful = energy (no fidgeting, no phone)
  • Presence: Calm and grounded says a lot before you even speak

πŸ‘‚ Active Listening β€” The Underrated Superpower

Most people are just waiting for their turn to talk. Active listeners actually hear β€” and people remember them for it. Here's how:

  • Face them. Put the phone down. Turn your body toward the person.
  • Reflect what you heard: "So what I'm hearing is…" before you respond
  • Ask follow-up questions. "Can you tell me more about that?" beats "uh-huh"
  • Pause before answering. A 2-second pause shows you actually thought about it
  • Don't interrupt. Let them finish β€” even if you already know what to say

🌍 Cultural Communication Differences

Communication styles vary across cultures and workplaces β€” and that's a good thing once you know the lay of the land.

  • Direct style (common in Licking County workplaces): Clear, to the point, "say what you mean"
  • Indirect style (common in many immigrant cultures, including Columbus communities): More hints, more context, less confrontational
  • The bridge: Always clarify. "Just to make sure I understand β€” you want me to…" builds trust both ways

CLEAR & DIRECT

Conflict is normal in any workplace β€” what matters is how you handle it. Use "I" statements, lead with empathy, and stay clear. Read each scenario and pick the move that resolves it without burning a bridge.

The Confusing Text

πŸ“ 9:43 PM β€” Sunday night, day before shift
Aaliyah's supervisor texts: "Hey come in early tmrw and pull the back stock and the front displays before we open and also can you cover Jamie's break ok thx." Aaliyah isn't sure what time "early" is, what "the back stock" means, and whether she's covering for Jamie's whole break or just part. She's tempted to send a thumbs up emoji and figure it out in the morning.
What should Aaliyah do?

The Constant Interruptor

πŸ“ Team huddle β€” every Monday morning
Devon is on a small team and shares ideas in the weekly huddle. Every time Devon starts speaking, one coworker β€” Trey β€” talks over them. It's happened four weeks in a row. Devon is frustrated, embarrassed, and is starting to dread the huddles. They're tempted to either explode in front of everyone or just stop sharing ideas altogether.
What should Devon do?

The New Tool

πŸ“ Day 3 on a new job
Marisol is three days into a new job and the team uses a piece of software she's never touched. Her supervisor walked her through it once, fast. Now she's been asked to enter five customer records into it before lunch β€” and she's stuck on step one. She doesn't want to look like she wasn't paying attention the first time.
What should Marisol do?
πŸ’‘ The "I" Statement Formula

When you have to address something hard, use this:

"When ___ happens, I feel ___, because ___. Could we try ___?"

It keeps you out of blame mode and opens space for the other person to actually hear you. Mistakes and misunderstandings are learning moments β€” not battles.
